Advancing AYUSH Exports Through Sustainability and Ethical Practices: A Path to Global Leadership

The AYUSH sector, which encompasses Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, has emerged as a key contributor to India’s export potential in the global wellness economy. With increasing emphasis on sustainable and ethical consumerism worldwide, the integration of sustainability principles into AYUSH exports is both a necessity and an opportunity. This paper explores strategies for embedding sustainable practices across the AYUSH export value chain, leveraging insights from successful applications in green logistics, sustainable packaging, and ethical production practices.
Sustainability certifications, such as organic and carbon-neutral labeling, have proven to influence consumer preferences, particularly in markets focused on health and environmental consciousness. This paper underscores how these certifications can enhance the global appeal of AYUSH products while fostering trust and transparency. Further, it examines the role of green logistics and reverse logistics in minimizing the environmental footprint of export activities, ensuring alignment with global sustainability goals.
Biodiversity preservation is another key theme, illustrated through the conservation of medicinal plants like ashwagandha, which underscores the synergy between environmental stewardship and economic objectives. Despite its potential, the AYUSH sector faces challenges such as regulatory compliance, high costs of certifications, and limited access to resources for small producers.
The paper highlights the importance of government interventions, including supportive policy frameworks, subsidies, and financial incentives, to address these challenges. By adopting a holistic approach to sustainable development, India’s AYUSH sector can align with Vision Viksit Bharat @2047, achieving growth while maintaining ecological balance.
Ultimately, the integration of green export strategies not only reinforces ethical trade practices but also positions AYUSH as a global leader in sustainable and eco-conscious wellness products.
